ARGOSY UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES NEW MASTER’S AND DOCTORAL ONLINE PROGRAMS IN EDUCATION

(CHICAGO - August 3, 2006) Argosy University has announced the launch of four new online programs from its College of Education and Human Development: Master of Education (MAEd) in Education Leadership; Master of Education (MAEd) in Instructional Leadership; Doctor of Education (EdD) in Education Leadership; and Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional Leadership. These online programs, offered through the Argosy University/Chicago campus, are currently enrolling for a September 2006 start.

"Argosy University's graduate programs in its College of Education and Human Development are designed to encourage innovation in a collaborative environment," says Dr. Gregory O'Brien, Argosy University system president. "We are excited to launch these programs online, and to offer students new opportunities to help them advance in their careers as successful leaders of education."

Argosy University, a system of 19 locations nationwide with a tradition of providing quality education in the practitioner fields of psychology, business, education, and health sciences, offers students a unique educational opportunity as they bridge the gap between life, work, and school. These new online programs in education will combine the convenience of a virtual classroom with the structure of traditional learning via text, audio, video, and web-based instruction. Students will interact with the same exceptional faculty who teach at the campuses - faculty who are dedicated educators skilled in their professions.

The courses in the MAEd in Education Leadership online program will prepare students to be leaders of or within large, complex educational institutions by reinforcing core skills in practical and theoretical training. Students are required to accrue 36 semester credits to complete this program. The curriculum challenges students to develop their core skills in the areas of practical and academic analysis, oral and written communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, team-building, and technology.

The MAEd in Instructional Leadership, also a 36 semester credit program, is developed for educators who want to develop or enhance their classroom skills, become curriculum supervisors, or train to be educational leaders with instruction as their main focus. Students enrolled in the MAEd in Instructional Leadership online program will gain the professional skills required to compete for titled roles such as assistant principal, educational administrator, and community college instructor.

The doctoral-level, 60 semester credit online programs in Educational Leadership and Instructional Leadership are designed for current mid-level educators seeking additional knowledge and credentials. The online doctoral programs include a residency component for completion of the dissertation, and the programs are offered 75% online and 25% in-residence, with the latter portion including a dissertation.

Prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to become highly accomplished leaders of education institutions, students in the EdD in Educational Leadership online program will have the ability to make decisions based on ethical principles and data. Students can also earn superintendent certification through this program.

The EdD in Instructional Leadership online program is for those students who wish to master teaching methodologies, become curriculum supervisors, or become educational leaders with curriculum and instruction as a main focus. Students must choose one of the following concentrations with this program: Community & Technical College Teaching; Distance Education; Higher Education; and K-12 Education.
